COLLABORATION
On October 27, 2017, the fashion design students, both undergraduate and masters, will premiere their final collections at Estrel Convention Center for an audience of 1000 and a selection of fashion industry professionals. Together with i-D under the direction of Alexandra Bondi di Antoni, the Institute for experimental fashion and textile design will present its newest design. This year again Patrick Koch developed the stage design together with the institute.
DESIGN PROJECTS
This year’s study program concentrated on the dynamics of constructing value in fashion:
Prof. Valeska Schmidt-Thomsen discusses in her project Material Matter questions of materiality and their influence on value of clothing. Slowing down production processes, crafts and traces of work are only some examples for subjects the students worked with.
In Prof. Carolin Lerch’s project Manifest, students based the collections on manifests, which they have written acoording to their personal design political stance. The results have been documented in short fashion films accompanying the collections.
In his projects Prof. Wowo Kraus concentrates on established systems in the fashion industry and he looked into copying as design practice as well as the changing creative direction in established fashion houses. In the project Copycat the copy of an existing garment built the foundation for the design, whereas the personal design signature of each student had to influence the existing aesthetic of a design house in the project Musical Chairs.
GRADUATES
The collections of the BA-graduates represent a variation of design positions, for instance of empathy, neo-conservatism and gender. Graduates of the MA-program discussed their own authorship in experimental design projects.
