PHOTONIC ist ein Mobile, das in jedem Element einen photonischen Kristall symbolisiert. In diesem Mobile sind drei unterschiedlich geformte Kristalle zu sehen, die einen vergrößerten photonischen Kristall darstellen. Die Oberflächenstruktur jeder Seite dieser Kristalle ist mit einer Struktur bedeckt, die der gleichen Struktur ähnelt. Diese Gestaltungselemente lassen das Licht auf unerwartete Art und Weise brechen und interagieren, indem sie je nach Beobachtungswinkel neue Farben und Schatten erzeugen. Photonische Kristalle bilden die Mikrostruktur einer irisierenden Oberfläche, wie beispielsweise die Federn eines Pfau oder einen Ölfleck auf dem Boden. Die Irisiertheit kann je nach Struktur der photonischen Kristalle in vielen Farben variieren, von einem Wechsel von nur zwei, bis hin zum gesamten Farbspektrum des Regenbogens. Tagsüber reflektiert das Licht einfach von der strukturierten Oberfläche des PHOTONIC Mobile, aber nachts kann man das Licht einschalten, welches in den Kristallen verborgen ist, und beobachten wie dieses von innen mit der Oberfläche des Mobiles interagiert.
PHOTONIC is a mobile which in its every element symbolizes a photonic crystal. In this mobile you can see three differently shaped crystals that portrait a scaled up photonic crystal, the surface structure of each side of those crystals is covered in a structure resembling the same structure again. These elements of the design make the light refract and interact in a fun an unexpected way, creating new colours und shadows depending on the angle of observation.Photonic crystals are what makes up the micro structure of an iridescent surface, like a peacock‘s feathers or an oil slick on the ground. Iridescence can shift in many colours depending on the structure of the photonic crystals varying from a shift of only two colours, to the entire colour spectrum of the rainbow. During the day time light simply reflects from the texturized surface of the PHOTONIC mobile, but at night one can turn on the Light that is hidden inside of each crystal element and enjoy the light interacting with the surface and structure of the mobile from inside.
