Limeng Liu wins IF student award 2025!

Limeng Liu won an IF Student Award with TANI the chair she designed in the Find Your Footprint project in 2024, a Kooperation Projekt with Zeitraum Furniture.

TANI was created — a flexible and comfortable solid wood chair. Thanks to its two wooden springs, the seat can flex within a certain range, offering a sitting experience similar to that of a cantilever chair made from steel and plastic. To minimize waste, TANI also features a simple assembly mechanism that eliminates the need for tools or glue in the packaging.

The Jury stated: This solution stands out by making the product more nature-friendly through the use of sustainable materials and improved ergonomics. This adapts, the classic design of a cantilever chair to the era of sustainability. This has the potential to become a modern classic.

IF Student award claims to be the world’s premier design awards for students, receiving more than 7,000 entries annually from all over the world. iF Design offers a platform for innovative student concepts. Winners gain global recognition and a portion of the 50,000 EUR prize money.

Around 350 guests attended the Awards Ceremony on 20 June 2025 at the stunning Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, UNESCO City of Design since 2014. The event was supported and co-sponsored by the Bilbao City Council, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the Basque Government, as they share and endorse the objective of promoting cultural and creative industries, design, young talent and the commitment to the SDGs.

CONGRATULATIONS LIMENG!
