Justus Hilfenhaus, born in Offenbach in 1997, is a German product and industrial designer.
In 2016, Hilfenhaus began his studies in product design at the Bauhaus University Weimar. During this period, he spent a semester at Pratt Institute in New York, focusing on industrial design. After earning his bachelor’s degree in 2021, he worked as a designer at Studio Hanne Willmann in Berlin. In 2024, Hilfenhaus completed his master’s degree in Product Design at ECAL in Lausanne, under the supervision of Erwan Bouroullec and Camille Blin.
Throughout this time, Hilfenhaus has collaborated with various clients, including Decathlon, Mono, Feller AG, Ceramaret, Horgenglarus, Warema, and Studio Hanne Willmann. His work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, such as Paris Design Week 2024, Lausanne Design Days 2024, Salone del Mobile (2022, 2023, 2024) and Vienna Design Week 2023. Justus is currently based in Berlin.
Since January 2025 Justus Hilfenhaus is Künstlerische Mitarbeiter at Design and Social Context
Next to it he will focus on hyper-localism, emphasizing the use of nearby resources, local knowledge, and cultural contexts. In an increasingly globalized world, where opportunities seem boundless, this approach zooms in on the immediate surroundings, embracing the constraints and possibilities of the local. By prioritizing proximity, his aim is to explore how sustainable design can begin at our doorstep, leveraging the materials, knowledge, and heritage that are already available within our communities.
