This summersemester we work together with A&W Magazine (one of the leading magazines on architecture, interiors and design in Germany) and DIM manufakturen in Berlin Kreuzberg (workshops for people with a distance to the labourmarket).

As a start we visit the DIM workshops and get an introduction by A&W magazine who started the AW newcomer-shop. From there onwards you will work out a number of concepts for products which are relevant, which can be made in small series, sold in the AW newcomer-shop and potentially made by the inclusive DIM workshops.

Questions to be answered in this project:
in a world full of stuff…
– what do we still produce?
– what is relevant and can be nice to have or give?
if you design small series for reproduction…
– how do you work and prepare your design for a workshop?
– how to use and include the expertise of its makers?
– how to make a design affordable, send it and pack it?
and last but not least: how can we tell the stories ?!…
– how to tell stories with objects and about design?
– how to include the stories of the makers?
– and how to communicate the different layers in your project?

How does this project procede and end?
– at the final presentation in July potential projects will be selected for the AW newcomer-shop
– early autumn the projects, students and makers will be photographed for a report to be published in the printed and online A&W Christmas magazines
– for the online shop A&W buys small series of the smaller objects, bigger objects are made to order
– in February 2026 we will show at the Talents-section of the Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt where the projects will be  presented as newcomers in the AW newcomer-shop

Who else is is integrated for support?
– Eva Feldkamp designer and founder of the All in Awe a platform for social projects
– UdK:shop, which sells projects designed by UdK students will share their experiences and expertise and as part of the Rundgang expo we might prepare a shop with them.
