Design a functional prototype that serves a drink in an innovative and engaging way
A Short Project with Silvio Rebholz & Justus Hilfenhaus:
Transform a routine action into an engaging experience and reflect on how the act of serving— whether opening, mixing, or pouring a drink—can be designed in a way that it surprises and delights users. For the presentation, drinks will be served to the people attending. It’s more about designing the gesture than designing the object.
By the end of the week, you will have a unique, designed functional prototype that transforms the simple act of serving a drink into an unforgettable moment. Beyond visual explorations and research on ergonomic aspects, prototypes can test the essence of things. This workshop challenges you to break
free from preconceived aesthetics and embrace surprise, movement, transformation and exploration in functional, physical prototypes.
Documenting your process, what you do, find out, explore, create and learn is not only important for your own reflections but also gives you the oportunity to present yourself and your work in a much more convincing way to an audience. Therfore a part of this workshop will also be filming and fotografing your process throughout the week to create a one minute instagram Reel at the end.
Short projekt
Modul 5 – 90507 Short project
Modul 9 – 90906 Short project
For all students in 4th, 6+, Erasmus and MA Adaptation semesters
Objectives
• Design how the action of serving can be memorable
• Discover the power of quick models and visualising your thoughts trough making
• consider the sensual impact of your design, and how it interacts with the user.
• Explore how the interaction with objects can be designed!
Deliverables
a 1:1 functional prototype which:
• is a product, not a performance
• is not larger than 1m3
• uses maximum two impulses to function
• is intuitive and clear, but also evoke surprise, or curiosity during the interaction.
a 1 min Reel wich shows:
• process
• learnings
• experiments
• context
• final prototype
-> it can be any sort of drink
-> no need to be alcoholic
