Our world and the context in which we use objects, is in flux. Our needs and ways of application constantly evolve. How can we identify a mechanism, a principle or means of transformation that applied to a product, turn into a meaningful solution for our contemporary life?
From folding to hinging, from creasing to sliding, assembling to inflating, in this short project we will be looking at principles of transforming objects into different shapes sizes and functions.
The aim is to experiment in real material and to present functional mock-ups of the concepts in a pop-up presentation. While we learn from existing mechanisms and explore the material side of transformation, the main focus is on why a solution is making things better:
Why and when do we need adjustment, save space, make use, or change function?
Can objects offer flexibility in the long run, when we will change perspective?
How can we save resources and create objects that remain relevant to us?
How can we offer multiple purposes without compromising the actual function we need?
Objectives:
– Designing a mock-up or functional model of the design concept
– Creating a simple, less than a minute video that explains the solution
– Pop-Up presentation during Berlin Designweek at Designtransfer

Unsere Welt und der Kontext, in dem wir Objekte verwenden, sind in Bewegung. Unsere Bedürfnisse und Anwendungsmöglichkeiten entwickeln sich ständig weiter. Wie können wir einen Mechanismus, ein Prinzip oder ein Mittel zur Transformation identifizieren, das, auf ein Produkt angewandt, zu einer sinnvollen Lösung für unser heutiges Leben wird?
Vom der Faltung bis zum Scharnier, vom Falzen bis zum Schieben, vom Zusammenbauen bis zum Aufblasen – in diesem kurzen Projekt werden wir uns mit den Prinzipien der Transformation von Objekten in verschiedene Formen, Größen und Funktionen beschäftigen.
Während wir von bestehenden Mechanismen lernen und die materielle Seite der Transformation erforschen, liegt das Hauptaugenmerk auf der Frage, warum eine Lösung die Dinge besser macht:
Warum und wann brauchen wir flexible Lösungen, wollen Platz sparen, wie nutzen wir etwas oder ändern wir die Funktion?
Können Objekte auf lange Sicht Flexibilität bieten, wenn wir die Perspektive wechseln?
Wie können wir Ressourcen sparen und Objekte schaffen, die für uns relevant bleiben?
Wie können wir mehrere Zwecke anbieten, ohne die eigentliche Funktion, die wir brauchen, zu beeinträchtigen?
Ziele:
– Entwurf eines Mock-ups oder Funktionsmodells des Designkonzepts
– Erstellung eines einfachen, weniger als eine Minute dauernden Videos, das die Lösung erklärt
– Pop-Up-Präsentation während der Berlin Designweek bei Designtransfer
