ON: ONE + ONE = ONE

FOCUS: objects which are two (or more) things in one and look good in both situations
CONTEXT: we have less space and money for living, we need to think about what we do with our resources, we have to reduce our amount of stuff
EXAMPLES: from Swiss knife, smartphone, a stool/side table, to extendable light or double-function furniture
OPTIONAL METHODS: analoge models, digital visualisations, AI and programming
AIM: saving space, stuff, money, resources and ‘wahlstress’, and… triggering imagination

The project is split up in 3 parts (part 2 is an integrated short project  and compulsory for this course)

PART ONE: EXPLORE, EXPERIENCE, EXPERIMENT & CONTEXTUALISE
research, take things apart, experiment, what are possible applications and methods,
Focus: research double functions and double sided objects in groups
• 17 april 10.00h: auftakt / intro
• 18, 24 april: research & contextualising ideas in groups of max 3 students
• 25 april: presentation of explorations and outcomes (sketches + 3d trials)

PART TWO: SHORT PROJECT – MAGIC MOVING MECHANISMS, see
design a moving multifunctional object, or mechanism, pop-up in Berlin Design Week
Focus: folding, flapping, flipping, movement without flopping
• 2, 3, 8, 9 may: short project days
• 17 may evening: pop up presentation at Designtransfer during Berlin Design Week

PART THREE: FINAL PROJECT – CLEAN HYBRIDS
design an uncomplicated hybrid object which is at least two in one, without a mechanism
Focus: functions and making sense for the time we live in and cleaning up a shape
• 15, 22, 30 may / 5, 12, 19, 26 June / 3, 10 July: project days
• 17-23 July: presentation + rundgang
