Designing and implementing textile samples plays a crucial role in the experimental textile process, allowing the designer to adapt and assess how various textile structures, colours, and materials will look and feel in practice.
In this seminar, we will examine how various designers approach the making, documentation, and sharing of samples, followed by a deep dive into your own textile sampling process.
Starting with the question, “Why do I sample?”, you will select a textile technique, develop a research question, create multiple series of textile samples, establish a documentation method, and determine effective formats for displaying and presenting your work.
The teaching format includes presentations and discussions in class, weekly assignments to complete in your study time, and tutorials.
