In a world where we are finally starting to grasp what it means to live with finity – in time, resources, materials, space, water – the digital still screams its promise of being endless. Digital artifacts and practices are having a detriment affect in the material. Cities, as the spaces where most of us live, can be the grounds for understanding this material. Cities have been the targets for technological development already before the digital era. Today, even more so, it is the site where digital technologies are expanding and experimenting.

In this compact course, using urban research methods, we will try to filter out digital materialities in the city – make them touchable, smellable, audible and with our senses legible. During the week we will be doing excursions as a group and alone, read together, walk together and practice making the immaterial understandable.
