MATERIAL UND OBJEKTRESONANZEN | Bachelorarbeit 2024
The starting point of my work was the question of the resonance of things – the question of the relationship the relationship between subject and object, how it arises and what role it plays in the design of objects. In an age of acceleration, the quality of encounters and the resulting relationships between the subject and the world are often lost. The objects are only mute fragments of a useful relationship.
The objects „93Kg“ and „75Kg“ are removed from the prior knowledge of typical material properties, creating a moment of irritation and thus a deepened need for perception on the part of the viewer. This moment of taking a closer look seems to carry the potential for a resonant relationship.
At the center of the work is the stone as the oldest contemporary witness surrounding us. Its complexity and the magnitude of the time hidden within it make it an exciting partner in the search for a subject-object resonance. „93Kg“ is a situation consisting of a 93 kg sedimentary rock, an aluminum plate and 240 threaded rods.
The aim of this work is to remove the stone from its overlooked position in the urban space and to draw attention to this initially inconspicuous contemporary witness. The minimal points of contact between the load-bearing threaded rods create a moment of suspension, which is intended to irritate the viewer. A connection is created between the two materialities of mineral origin, which requires precisely this stone for a meeting.
„75Kg“ consists of a 75 kg granite and larch wood. The prior knowledge of the viewer collides with the actual appearance of the object and is intended to lead to an initial moment of attention and a possible subsequent resonance relationship. This object attempts to represent the agency of the materiality of stone and to leave room for its interpretation.
