New Flesh | Margarita Rozhkova | 2022

“Long live the new flesh” („Lang lebe das neue Fleisch“) flüstert der Protagonist in der Schlussszene von David Cronenbergs einflussreichen Body Horror Film Videodrome, und zieht den Abzug der mit seiner Hand verwachsenen Pistole. In meiner Kollektion mit dem Titel New Flesh verlagere ich den Fokus vom Körper auf das sensible Fleisch.

Ich betrachte das Fleisch im Zeitalter des Bio-Informationskapitalismus mit den ihn konstituierenden regulatorischen Praktiken, die darauf abzielen, das Fleisch dem Imperativ der Körperoptimierung zu unterwerfen. Auf diese Weise möchte ich eine Diskussion über das Widerstandspotenzial des Fleisches anregen, da Sensibilität, Transgression und Nicht-Identität für unser Verständnis des Konzeptes „Fleisch“ von zentraler Bedeutung sind.

Der Herrenanzug ist das wahrscheinlich repräsentativste Kleidungsstück in der menschlichen Garderobe. Hier durchläuft er verschiedene Stadien der Verwandlung in den Zustand der Nicht-Identität. Der Herrenanzug wird um Fleisch zu werden.

In my collection New Flesh, I intend to shift the focus from the body to the sensible flesh.

I look at the flesh in the age of informational bio-capitalism with its regulatory practices that are aimed at submitting the flesh to the body-enhancement imperatives. By doing so, I would like to open up a conversation about potential for

resistance (Widerstandspotenzial) of the flesh since potential, sensibility, transgression, and non-identity are central to our understanding of the notion of flesh.
The men’s suit, the most representational item in the human wardrobe, is going through different stages of metamorphosis into the state of non-identity, to become flesh.
