Fashion accessory, Wikipedia;
A fashion accessory is an item which is used to contribute, in a secondary manner, to the wearer’s outfit. The term came into use in the 19th century. Accessories are often used to complete an outfit and are chosen to specifically complement the wearer’s look.[1]

But really is that all there is to an accessory?
This project aims to explore what accessories can do beyond just complementing an outfit. Accessories are part of customs and rituals, and become, through their use, objects or tools to perform and express with.
Accessories serve as expressions of the spirit of times and reflect societal changes. Sometimes accessories even become symbols for sociopolitical movements. The main aim is to understand and expand on what an accessory can be and can mean.
Specific areas of interest are accessories as objects that deals with and communicates about: historic fashion moment / fashion codes, societal change and identity.
