Vlasta Kubušová is a material designer, researcher and co-founder of crafting plastics! studio.
She holds an M.A. degree in Media Arts from Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (2013) and M.A. in Design from the UDK (2015). Together with Miroslav Král she founded crafting plastics! studio (cp!s), an award-winning multidisciplinary material design studio. By combining science and design, cp!s revolutionizes properties, the aesthetic and values of biobased materials, and offers solutions for consumer goods and closed-loop systems in various fields. In 2018, together with material scientists, they co-created NUATAN, a material brand for bioplastic solutions for value-added products.
Cp!s showed at renowned institutions, incl. V&A, London Design Museum, Salone del Mobile, Rossana Orlandi, Schloss Hollenegg, MAK Vienna, Expo Dubai etc., won international prizes and nominations for eg. German Design Award (2018, 2021), Green Product Award (2017, 2021) Beazley Designs of the Years 2019, Dezeen Award (best-emerging studios 2019, 2022). In 2018, Vlasta was appointed a member of the Slovak Forbes’ 30under30.
Vlasta currently continues her work on the innovative materials’ research and development within her ArtD studies at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. She is a recipient of Fulbright Scholarship for 2021/2022, conducting research on Interactive Biomaterials at University of Pennsylvania and at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as MIT-MISTI GSF scholar. Apart from her design practice, she is also the founder and initiator of various cross-disciplinary projects, symposiums and forums such as In the Midl Design Forum, De/Posium, and recent platform Biomaterials in Practice (co-founded with Verena Michels).
In the wintersemester of 2022/23 Vlasta Kubušová will give a talk and a workshop as part of the Circular Impact project introducing students to interdisciplinary projects aimed at bringing innovative biomaterials into practice – from sustainable, closed-loop to the context of regenerative systems. She will be involved in the symposium at the end.
