International renown designer Hella Jongerius lives in Berlin. The Dutch designer founded her studio Jongeriuslab in 1993 after studying at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. Since then she has been researching and developing products, collections and interiors for international companies such as Maharam, KLM and Vitra and Danskina. Jongerius sees her work as a never-ending process. The designs combine the latest technological achievements with, in some cases, centuries-old handcraft techniques.
For the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg she designed a few collections: the Nymphenburger Sketch dinnerware and the Four Seasons collection. The most well-known are the animal bowls which can be seen in the world’s most famous design museums to this day. In 2023 she realized the Phoenix collection with Nymphenburg for an installation in Die Neue Sammlung in München. Re-using old plates, playing with tradition and telling stories all play a roll in this collection.
On 12 Dec we will have a conversation with Hella about Comfort and her work for Nymphenburg and the role of comfort in design.
