COMFORT

Products can do a lot to us:
they can work well in a practical way: functional & ergonomic, but they can also work well in a mental way: poetic & creating a comfort zone, they can offer consolation & convenience.

This semester we explored:
• the two-sidedness of products and their functionality: practical and/or mental, the applied and/or decorative
• how to justify objects which seem to be there mainly for personal beauty or personal taste in a time where we globally have to think about what we add to this world
• the borders of design and kitsch, ethics and aesthetics and how to define your own borders as a designer

THE AIM IS TO CREATE AN OBJECT OF COMFORT

TASKS:
– research and visit DDW and make a personal thematic report
– brainstorm: write a short essay on what is comfort for you and which emphasises are important for you and… what is a comfort zone?
– analyse with your mind – listen to your stomach
– design & make!

INCLUDED:
‘who designs? the designer or AI?’
, an integrated AI workshop:
– an AI intro into prompting, image generating and presenting through AI
– experimenting and exploring (un)comfortable designprocesses
